Our Campaign Director – Fermi WONG
Graduated at City University of Hong Kong in 1995, Fermi Wong has joined the social work profession for 13 years. Fermi Wong first worked as an outreach social worker. In 1998, when she came into contact with a group of Nepalese youth in Jordan, she was shocked by their deprived situation, in lacking of education and employment opportunities. From then onwards, she has dedicated herself serving ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. Fermi Wong set up Hong Kong Unison in 2001. Owing to lacking of funds, at first she had to work on voluntary basis. Not until 2004 she became a paid staff. Her genuine care and devoted effort has won the heart and support of many ethnic minority residents in Hong Kong. During the past years, Fermi Wong and the Hong Kong Unison have continued advocating for the enactment of anti-racial discrimination legislation. She believes the passing of Race Discrimination Bill is only the first step towards race equality. She decided to step down from the position of Executive Director at this crucial time, taking up the new post of Campaign Director, so as to concentrate her effort in advocacy for a society with racial harmony.
