Hong Kong Unison is an NGO that works on upholding rights of ethnic minority residents of Hong Kong.  We are dedicated to promoting racial equality and advocating for change so all ethnic minority residents of Hong Kong have equal opportunity and equal access to public services and information.  

We invite highly motivated and committed individuals to apply for the following positions

  • Community Officer (1 year contract renewable)

    Community Officer (1 year contract renewable)

    Hong Kong Unison is a rights-based NGO dedicated to promoting racial equality and serving ethnic minorities in Hong Kong.  Unison adopts macro social work practice by effecting policy change but also values the importance of rapport building with our service users. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and committed individual to work closely with our Advocacy and Policy team.

    Responsibilities:

    • Engage and build relationships with ethnic minority residents;
    • Provide frontline support for ethnic minority individuals and families (such as referral, casework, home visits, etc.);
    • Plan and conduct outreach and education events (such as workshops for ethnic minority parents);
    • Lead focus groups and concern groups, centering policy work to reflect the needs of Unison’s service users;
    • Represent Unison in community meetings and lead groups to advance policy objectives;
    • Provide support for meetings, briefings, hearings, and events with legislators and government officials;
    • Assist in public education and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Requirements:

    • Degree holder with 2 to 3 years of experience relevant to the position (grassroots organizing, community outreach, advocacy, etc.); social work degree an asset;
    • Demonstrated understanding of racial equality, equal opportunities and human rights;
    • Strong sense and orientation in policy making;
    • Committed to Unison’s mission and with passion for ethnic minorities;  
    • Good command in written and spoken English; good command in either spoken Urdu, Hindi, or Nepali; able to speak and read Chinese an asset;
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; written and verbal group facilitation skills;
    • Responsible, self-motivated, resourceful, mature and willing to take on new challenges;
    • Able to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Adobe Illustrator an asset

    Programme support and administrative assistant

    We are a rights-based NGO dedicated to promoting racial equality and serving ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. We invite highly motivated and committed individuals to apply for the position of Programme support and administrative assistant.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provides general office administrative and clerical support such as phone enquiries, database, etc. ;
    • Handles organization financial and accounting matters, including but not limited to book-keeping, cheque issuance and preparing monthly journals;
    • Provides support on fundraising programme;
    • Assists in donor and volunteer management;
    • Provides support to programme team;
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Requirements:

    • F.5 or above with HKCEE or DSE
    • Good command of English; knowledge of Urdu, Hindi or Nepali an asset
    • Good command of Chinese preferred
    • Good accounting knowledge, LCCI intermediate level or above
    • Good knowledge in office operation, basic word processing, and internet skills
    • Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and WordPress an asset
    • Mature, responsible, self-motivated, able to work independently and cope with daily routines
    • Good interpersonal skills and able to work in multicultural environment
    • 1 year experience in accounting, preferably in NGO
    • Passion for working with ethnic minorities

    Internship

    Hong Kong Unison focuses on ethnic minorities’ education and anti-discrimination legislation. We are looking for smart, organized and capable individuals who are passionate about social issues. Unison interns will have a chance to learn about advocacy, public education and community organizing, and the situation of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong.

    We are looking for

    • Hard-working, confident and zealous individual
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
    • Good cultural and emotional intelligence
    • Interest in social justice, equality and inclusion
    • Fluent in English, proficiency in Cantonese is an advantage

    What you will gain

    • A chance to learn about advocacy, community organizing and public education
    • Knowledge and experience on ethnic minority issues through working with our experienced team
    • A certificate of internship
